First Icon tutorial

This is my first icon tutorial,I made this icon for me and thought it turned out pretty.I use photoshop CS.It includes selective coloring.


Go from this   to this 


Crop,sharpen and do whatever you do usually

Then:

1.Duplicate your base,set it to softlight 100%(you can play around with the opacity)


2.Make a color balance layer.Settings:

Midtones: +31 +40 +29

Shadows:  +23  +15 -16

Highlights: +27 -54  -49

Set it to lighten 19% (the opacity depends on how redish you want the icon to look)

3.Make a selective color layer.Settings:

Reds:  +63 +33 +39 +27

Yellows:  -20  +41  +42 +52

Blues:  +55  -25  -28 -22

Neutrals:  +32  +28 +10 -20

Set it too softlight 100%

4.I didn't want it to look so bright so I made a Hue/Saturation layer:

Hue:+1
Saturation: -7
Lightness: -1
 
Set it to normal 100%

5.Then I wanted to add a bit of contrast so I made a brightness/contrast layer:

Brightness:+9

Contrast: +3

Set it to lighten 80%(you can skip this step depending on your icon)


6.Now make a solid layer.Fill it with #28CBD2. Set it too softlight 89%

7.Now make a curves layer.

Blue: input: 128 Output: 139

Set it to softlight 71%

8.You can skip this step but I'll mention it anyway.Lol!

Make a new color balance layer.Settings:

Midtones: -41  +10  +20

Shadows:  +23 -22 -16

Highlights: -9 0 0

Set it to Saturation 83%

And last but not least:

9.Add this texture     I am sorry I don't remember who made it if you recognise it tell me to give credit to the maker.

And set it to Saturation 29%

Merge all layers.
That's all!The coloring depends on the pic so play around,be creative.You can add text etc.Let me know if it's been helpful,if you have any questions ask and let me see what you've come up with!
